Frequently Asked Questions

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

The substance used in anti-wrinkle injections is produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum which has been used for almost 40 years to treat a number of conditions including migraine, back and facial spasms, excessive sweating and facial wrinkles. Anti-wrinkle injections are the most commonly used aesthetic producedure and is supported by extensive clinical practice, published studies and comprehensive clinical trials. The term 'Botox' is often used to describe anti-wrinkle injections when in fact Botox is only one of the products available to use for this treatment.

How do antiwrinkle injections work?

Frown, worry and laughter lines are all caused by the repeated contractions of facial muscles. Anti-wrinkle injections work by blocking nerve impulses which causes muscle relaxation. This creates a smooth, rejuvenated appearance of the skin and prevents any static lines from deepening.

What does the treatment involve?

Any aesthetic procedure should take place only after a comprehensive consultation which will include discussions around past medical and surgical history, allergies and medications. It is essential that there is an understanding and agreement on expected results. The actual treatment will involve an assessment of the face, so you will be asked to move certain muscles to ensure that the injections are placed to suit your individual anatomy. The number of injections to be administered will vary between individuals but is generally between 6 and 15. The needle is small and the procedure is almost painless and takes very little time. There is no recovery time and you can expect to continue with your day immediately after the treatment.

Will I have to wear a retainer?

Yes, as with all orthodontic treatment, a retainer is necessary to maintain the straighter position of your teeth. If you don’t want to wear a removable retainer, you can have a bonded retainer placed behind your teeth. There are a variety of options that you can choose from according to your personal preference and situation.

How long do anti wrinkle injections take to work?

You can expect to start seeing some reduction in movement after about 4-5 days but the full effects may not be seen for 2 weeks.

How long does the effects last for?

The effect will last for 3-4 months. It is important to remember that the aim of the treatment is to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, not to have a 'frozen face'.
